Partners' news: supporting Occupational Therapy Week, November 4-10
Friday 25th October 2019
A team of occupational therapists, at Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH), is raising awareness of the work they do to support people who have a mental health condition, physical health need or a learning disability to get the most from life.
During the 2019 Occupational Therapy Week, which runs from November 4-10, the team will be promoting this year’s theme of ‘Small change, Big Impact’ to the residents of Doncaster.
Throughout the week RDaSH occupational therapists will be hosting stands at the WellBean Coffee Lounge at Tickhill Road Hospital, Balby in Doncaster, DN4 8QN.
The team is encouraging Doncaster residents to come along and find out how occupational therapy can promote good health, support rehabilitation to improve their physical and mental wellbeing.
Wendy Ferguson, RDaSH Mental Health Lead Occupational Therapist, said: “As occupational therapists we support recovery and rehabilitation and provide practical support to empower people to overcome barriers that prevent them from doing the day to day activities and work that matter to them.
“Occupational Therapy Week gives us a platform to show how we add real value to the lives of the people in our care.”
Occupational therapists have been described as the health and social care system’s ‘secret weapon’. They are the only registered health and social care registered profession educated to work across mental and physical health in the NHS and social care settings. Whether in a hospital, community, social care, mental health and learning disability settings they are uniquely placed to see the whole person and support their recovery with the aim of achieving their full potential.
Occupational Therapy Week is held every year in the first week of November by The Royal College of Occupational Therapists.
